Stevenage FC Foundation takes the governance of the charity incredibly seriously and we are lucky to be supported by a fantastic set of trustees who, in their roles, perform a number of duties including:
- defining the long term direction of the charity, including its objectives or purpose
- implementing policies and activities to achieve objectives
- complying with legal requirements
- accountability to those with an interest or ‘stake’ in the charity

Steve McQueen
Chair
Steve was appointed Chair of Trustees in April 2022 having joined the Foundation in 2012 and provides a superb network of commercial contacts and a wealth of financial experience. Until his recent retirement, worked as a Commercial Relationship Director for Lloyds Bank based in Stevenage. With 41 years banking experience with Lloyds, Steve managed a portfolio of over 50 local SME clients with turnovers between £10M and £25M including three large national charities.

Mark Hubbocks
Secretary
A Senior Partner at local Accountants & Wealth Management Company, Wagstaffs, based in the Old Town. An original trustee of the Foundation, utilising his knowledge to support the Foundation with financial planning. Mark is also the Foundation’s Secretary working alongside our Chair of Trustees to ensure the charity is legally compliant and satisfy the requirements from the Charities Commission.

Roger Gochin

Joined the Foundation in 2014 having spent his professional career in Further Education, most notably as Principal of North Herts College for 15 years. Roger was previously Chair of Trustees for the Foundation between 2015 and 2022, and brings a wealth of knowledge of charitable governance from holding a variety of positions with other charitable organisations and leads the trustees to provide relevant and support to the staff, ensuring the Foundation delivers against its aims & objectives.

Phil Wallace BEM
Majority owner of Stevenage FC, the founder and an original trustee of the Foundation, working tirelessly to establish the charity in 2009 when Stevenage FC were promoted to the Football League. Phil brings a tremendous wealth of experience in both the football and commercial world to the Foundation, ensuring the strongest of links between the Charity and Stevenage FC, as well as how best to use the clubs’ identify and appeal to engage and support our community

Carol Ashby
Joining in June 2016, Carol is now partially retired, having previously been the owner of her own HR company. Her career included working with Trade Unions and providing HR support for major local companies. Carol provides significant support to the Foundation ensuring that legislation and operational policies and procedures are up to date and effectively managed.

Darren Isted
The newest board member, joining in February 2020. The owner of Hashtag Digital Media, SpitfirePR and former editor of The Comet Newspaper. An experienced Marketing Director with a history of working in the public relations and communications industry including Journalism, Newspapers, Marketing Strategy, Social Media, and Digital Media. Darren provides support to the Foundation with marketing itself across a variety of platforms, networking with other organisations and helping the charity to demonstrate its impact.

Richard Joyce
Joining in August 2018, Richard is CEO of The Black Prince Trust in Lambeth and has previously worked across London and England in Programme Management roles for sport-for-development charities Chance to Shine and Greenhouse Sports. Richard brings a wealth of experience and expertise in programme delivery, partnership development, working with schools, safeguarding, fundraising and impact evaluation. Richard provides support to the Foundation in particular with safeguarding, working with schools and helping the charity to demonstrate its impact.

Claire Thompson
Joining in 2022, Claire works in one of the schools that the foundation provides lunchtime and after school clubs. Claire began teaching in 2005 and has worked in schools in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Currently, her role includes leading EYFS and KS1 as well as assessment and sourcing extra-curricular provision which is where her interest in the foundation began. Claire provides support to the Foundation with safeguarding and education.
