Stevenage FC Foundation takes the governance of the charity incredibly seriously and we are lucky to be supported by a fantastic set of trustees who, in their roles, perform a number of duties including:
- defining the long term direction of the charity, including its objectives or purpose
- implementing policies and activities to achieve objectives
- complying with legal requirements
- accountability to those with an interest or ‘stake’ in the charity
Joined the Foundation in 2014 having spent his professional career in Further Education, most notably as Principal of North Herts College for 15 years. Roger has been Chair of Trustees since 2015 and brings a wealth of knowledge of charitable governance from holding a variety of positions with other charitable organisations and leads the trustees to provide relevant and support to the staff, ensuring the Foundation delivers against its aims & objectives.
Until his recent retirement, worked as a Commercial Relationship Director for Lloyds Bank based in Stevenage. With 41 years banking experience with Lloyds, Steve managed a portfolio of over 50 local SME clients with turnovers between £10M and £25M including three large national charities. Joined the Foundation in 2012 and provides a superb network of commercial contacts to the Foundation in addition to acting as the charity’s Vice-Chair. Steve also supports the Foundation with ensuring robust financial control procedures throughout its day to day operations.
A Senior Partner at local Accountants & Wealth Management Company, Wagstaffs, based in the Old Town. An original trustee of the Foundation, utilising his knowledge to support the Foundation with financial planning. Mark is also the Foundation’s Secretary working alongside our Chair of Trustees to ensure the charity is legally compliant and satisfy the requirements from the Charities Commission.
Majority owner of Stevenage FC, the founder and an original trustee of the Foundation, working tirelessly to establish the charity in 2009 when Stevenage FC were promoted to the Football League. Phil brings a tremendous wealth of experience in both the football and commercial world to the Foundation, ensuring the strongest of links between the Charity and Stevenage FC, as well as how best to use the clubs’ identify and appeal to engage and support our community
Joining in June 2016, Carol is now partially retired, having previously been the owner of her own HR company. Her career included working with Trade Unions and providing HR support for major local companies. Carol provides significant support to the Foundation ensuring that legislation and operational policies and procedures are up to date and effectively managed.
The newest board member, joining in February 2020. The owner of Hashtag Digital Media, SpitfirePR and former editor of The Comet Newspaper. An experienced Marketing Director with a history of working in the public relations and communications industry including Journalism, Newspapers, Marketing Strategy, Social Media, and Digital Media. Darren provides support to the Foundation with marketing itself across a variety of platforms, networking with other organisations and helping the charity to demonstrate its impact.
Joining in August 2018, an Operations Manager for national cricket charity Chance to Shine with expertise in delivery, partnership development, safeguarding, monitoring & evaluation and demonstrating impact. Richard provides support to the Foundation in particular with safeguarding and helping the charity to demonstrate its impact.
