On Friday 24th June 2022 we held our 2nd Memorial Walking Football Tournament at Herts FA, The County Ground in Letchworth to remember our beloved Ken Headington.
Ken was a prominent figure in Hertfordshire football, providing thousands of players the opportunity to participate in football through his work at Bedwell Rangers, as well as providing support to the wider football community whilst working for Hertfordshire Football Association for over a decade. Ken had been long associated with the Football Club, initially in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s, working as a part of the Club’s EFCO programme at North Herts College. In 2017 he returned to the Club as a Foundation Coach where he was a key part in delivering the Foundation’s Walking Football, Youth Engagement and Primary Schools Programmes. Ken passed away suddenly on 10th February 2019, at the age of 60 and the tournament was set up as a reminder of the influence Ken had on the game.
Four teams came together and and participated in the tournament where 50% of the proceeds were donated to the British Heart Foundation. In total we raised £270.00.
The teams that participated were:
- Cheshunt FC Walking Football
- Watford FC Walking Football
- Wednesday Morning Wizards
The winners of this tournament were Cheshunt FC Walking Football.
We plan to continue this remembrance event each year, and we will work to grow this event each time.
