Our first ever Health and Wellbeing Day took place on Wednesday 11th May 2022 at the Lamex Stadium. The day had a mixture of physical activity opportunities and community partners offering advice and guidance on the services they offer the residents of Stevenage and the surrounding areas.
30 Pupils from Shephalbury Park Primary School were first on the pitch to take part in a ‘joy of moving festival’. They participated in a number of fun games which promoted in some positive health messages, including healthy eating. A taster session of the ‘Introduction to exercise’ session was next – moving inside due to the weather – before participants from our Walking Football sessions took part in an informal game to end the day.
In the 76 Lounge, representatives from 9 Community Organisations engaged with residents to promote the opportunities they currently have to support the local community. These Organisations included Mind, Age Uk, Hertfordshire Sports Partnership and Junction 7 Creative. All welcomed the opportunity to network and felt the day had been beneficial in their continued engagement with the residents of Stevenage.
The event was visited by the Deputy Mayor of Stevenage and Her Consort, The Portfolio Holder for Children, Young People, Leisure & Culture, Cllr Richard Henry and the Portfolio for Older People, Health and Housing, Cllr Jeannette Thomas.
The event was a great opportunity to showcase the Physical Activity opportunities currently offered by the foundation and it was great to have so many partners supporting the event. We look forward to making next years’ event even bigger and better.
